JUNE 22                           BONJOUR. 
THURSDAY

After our BUFFET BREAKFAST, we will board our CHARTER  COACH for a visit to LEUVEN. 
Although a great deal of destruction took place during both World Wars, many of Leuven’s most impressive historic buildings remain standing. 
A visit to the GROTE MARKT is required, as is a visit to SINT-PIETERSKERK (St. Peter’s Church), a wonderful example of Gothic architecture which houses the STEDELIJK MUSEUM VOOR RELIGIEUZE KUNST (Museum of Religious Art).  Close by is the STADHUIS (City Hall),with its ornate façade complete with 236 statues. 
Since the 15^th Century, Leuven’s University has had a reputation as a most respected institution.  On its campus, along the NAAMSESTRAAT, many examples
of early construction can be found.  While walking through the city, don’t forget to look for a small statue of ERASMUS, who lectured of the University. 
The University is also the home of The Big Bang theory, formulated in 1931 by Father Georges Lemaitre – he called the concept “The day without yesterday.”
