Concert Tour of Belgium
JUNE 10 -- JUNE 24, 2023
DAY 11

JUNE 21                         9:00 AM                     BONJOUR
WEDNESDAY
  -  4:00 PM       CONCERT

After our BUFFET BREAKFAST, we will board our CHARTER COACH for our trip to MECHELEN.  The city’s Christian heritage is a result of
ST.
RUMBOLD, a popular 7th Century Irish evangelist, whose popularity ended when he   crossed a local stonemason, who chopped him up.
When the remains were exhumed at a later date, no decay was found and a shrine was built in his honor.  ST. RUMBOLD’S CATHEDRAL
and BELL TOWER are worth a visit – climb 538 steps to the top of the tower (which is the tallest in Belgium).
Also see the world famous CARILLON BELLS, which ring out every 15 minutes, see the OAK PULPIT and view
vanDYCK’S CRUCIFIXION. Visit the GROTE MARKT, STADHUIS(City Hall – which is actually 3 different buildings),
the ROYAL MANUFACTURERS DE WIT (a world renowned
tapestry restoration and weaving workshop), the WINTER GARDEN
OF THE URSULINE NUNS, HAVERWERF (Oats Wharf – home of much of Mechelen’s medieval architecture, including the
3 houses known as SING-JOZEF, DE DUIVELTJES & HET PARADIJSKE), BASILICA OF OUR LADY OF HANSWIJK,
KLEIN BEGIJNHOF (Small Beguinage – built 1256) and GROOT BEGIJNHOF (Large Beguinage – built 1595) and OPSINJJOKE,
Mechelen’s mascot which symbolizes the punishment of Drunkards and Womanizers.  Don’t forget to take a stroll along the canal
on the DIJLEPAD – the floating walkway.  A visit to the KAZERNE DOSSIN MUSEUM should not be missed.
Belgium was occupied by the Nazis from 1940-1945.  The Dossin Barracks in Mechelen was selected as the transit point for those
destined for the Concentration Camps (most were sent to AUSCHWITZ).  By the end of the war, a total of 25,490 Jews and
353 Roma were deported from Mechelen.

LUNCH and DINNER are on your own.  BONSOIR
